Voodoocuts kicks off the A-Side with Kelja, a raw 70s afro-funk bomb from the Ivory Coast. The American-funk inspired tune features a funky bassline & killer organ vibe, mingled with a dirty, raw saxophone line and James Brown influenced vocals. Voodoocuts’ rework turns the track into a serious dancefloor banger!
In The Tortoise Loop Voodoocuts blends an infectious groove with pounding drum breaks and hypnotic vocals. A hot afro-latin joint not to be missed!
On the flip SoulBrigada takes things to a disco tip. Hustleman is a stunning afrofunk & disco gem from West Africa. The second track Madera is an afro-disco gem with a compelling Cape Verdean groove.

After the first mixtape of the Japan series called „Funky Kyoto“ it’s time for another eclectic trip. This time you gonna hear funky gems from Japans capitol Tokyo.

A two and a half-week roundtrip through Japan this autumn was also used for extensive crate diggin‘. The japanese people are well-known for beeing serious music nerds. It is therefore no surprise that the medium vinyl isn’t a current hype as in the western hemisphere but deeply rooted in the life of japanese people.

Besides to a vast amount of record stores you can find almost all population stratum in the shops: from young schoolgirls, experienced crate diggers to businessmen.

In 2015 the Brigadistas finally reunites in Switzerlands probably most exciting city: Zurich. Since then the Limmat city is the new home base of SoulBrigada.

Compared to other cities Zurich is rather a small metropolis but due to the fact that one third of its inhabitants are from foreign countries (approximate 170 nations) it’s a nice melting pot of varied cultures and (life-)styles. Zurich’s cultural scene is also a nice environment for creative work & output.

And it’s also good place for music from vinyl. Several record shops, flea markets & record fairs are a good source for extended diggin‘ tours. In „SoulBrigada pres. During a summer vacation in Berlin (august 2015) we was extensively diggin‘ through Berlins record stores and flea markets. Although there’s electronic music everywhere, ‪Berlin‬ is a real digger paradise for music any couleur.

In March 2015 we started with a new project: every four weeks we’ll broadcast our 2hour SoulBrigada setblock via radio GDS.FM | Zurich (CH). It’s an interesting format to present our music, new stuff and rare|obscure tracks. From time to time we broadcast guest DJ-Mixes from friends like Chris Secundo, Shantisan and others..

GDS.FM (Gegen den Strom | against the current) is a Zurich based independent radio station – founded in 2013. A careful handpicked music program with nice tracks from several genres delights the day: from Indie-Rock to Nu-Jazz, from Acid-House to Experimental, from Hip- to Trip-Hop. Brandnew shit and well-known classics.

In the evening the program offers selected DJ- and Livesets: over 40 local labels and DJs supply regularly their setblocks and shows. You can hear also live broadcasts from Zurich based Bars, Clubs & Festivals.

Playing a 7inch vinyl only DJ-Set @ Lisbon|Portugal together with the Jovens do Clara (guys from Clara): Mr. Bird (BBE Rec.|UK), DJ Rebel (Dj’s Choice|IT) & DJ Lucky (Lisboa|PT) on 12th June 2014. This day is called “Dia de Santo António” – a holiday in Lisbon where they celebrate the saint Antonius (patron of Lisbon). On this day the whole city is on fire: parades, street festivals.. and of course parties! Playin’ open air at the wonderful Jardim Clara Clara (a parc located in the old town). Lookin’ forward to the first SoulBrigada DJ-gig in Portugal!
